Teachers can book a free school tour of Anzac Square & Memorial Galleries, where students will explore the rich military history of Queensland. Guided by knowledgeable staff, the tour features an interactive exhibition that engages students in a participatory learning process. Students will discover the local significance of Australia’s war history and learn the inspiring stories of Queenslanders who exhibited remarkable courage and selflessness during conflicts.
Free guided tours are available on weekdays at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, and 12:30 pm, lasting approximately 45 minutes. Each tour can be tailored to suit various year levels and areas of study.
Please note that tour groups are limited to a maximum of 30 participants, including supervising adults. One adult supervisor is required for every 30 students, with a maximum of 60 participants across two tour groups for each time slot.
Accessibility features include wheelchair-accessible interactive screens in the galleries and ambulant toilets in the Post World War II Memorial Gallery.
Resources for preparation include free printable materials and professional development for teachers available on the Curriculum Connect website. Interactive treasure hunts tailored for different year groups are available to enhance the learning experience during the visit.
For a more enriching experience, you can combine the tour with a Research Experience at the State Library of Queensland, located a 20-minute walk away. Students will have the opportunity to build their information literacy skills and extend their content knowledge through tailored study guides prepared by librarians.
