This prestigious event honors the outstanding accomplishments of African professionals in Australia.
Enjoy an evening filled with inspiring speakers, captivating entertainment, and the presentation of awards that highlight significant contributions in various fields. We are honored to have Dr. Kathomi Gatwiri as our guest speaker. Dr. Gatwiri is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University (SCU) and an ARC DECRA Fellow at the Centre for Children & Young People (CCYP). She is the President of the Australian Women & Gender Studies Association (AWGSA) and a practising psychotherapist.
As one of Australia's leading Afro-diasporic scholars, her award-winning research explores blackness, Africanness, and migranthood. Dr. Gatwiri has published over 100 research outputs, including two books, and secured over $1,500,000 in competitive research funding. Her accolades include the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for research excellence and community impact (2022), the Vice-Chancellor Early Career Researcher Award (2019), and the Community Impact Award as "Kenyan of the Year" (2017). She co-founded Femicide Count-Kenya, a platform documenting violence against Kenyan women, and founded Healing Together, a service offering culturally affirming therapeutic support for those affected by racial trauma.
The APA Awards Night and Gala Dinner is more than an event; it’s an inspirational experience that encourages and connects individuals. Celebrate achievements, build connections, and be inspired. Join us for an unforgettable evening!
