Canadian ensemble BADBADNOTGOOD makes their highly-anticipated return to Australia in December 2024 on the Mid Spiral Tour. This string of dates arrives in support of their latest release, the Mid Spiral suite: Chaos, Order and Growth. The triplicate EP features BADBADNOTGOOD members Al Sow, Chester Hansen, and Leland Whitty, joined by their close friends and collaborators, including BADBADNOTGOOD touring member Felix Fox-Pappas (keys), and Toronto jazz musicians Kaelin Murphy (trumpet), Juan Carlos Medrano Magallenes (percussion), and LA musician Tyler Lott (guitar).
BadBadNotGood made their name by crossing genres, seamlessly moving between styles and fusing hip hop with jazz and vice versa. Formed in 2010, the band originally consisted of three to four members before establishing its current lineup in 2015. Band members Alexander Sowinski (drums), Chester Hansen (bass), and Leland Whitty (guitar and woodwinds) met while studying in the Humber College jazz program in Toronto, where they opted to draw inspiration from hip hop and contemporary genres rather than traditional jazz standards.
Their latest release, Mid Spiral, showcases instrumental jazz at its core, demonstrating BADBADNOTGOOD's commitment to pushing the boundaries of how they integrate a limitless range of genres and musicianship into their compositions.
