This Australian indie outfit is known for their passionate, wry take on hooky, '70s post-punk-influenced guitar rock. After releasing several acclaimed EPs, they signed with Sub Pop and debuted their full-length album, Call a Doctor, in 2024, which received praise from NME as “brilliantly bonkers indie rock.”
Formed in 2020 in Queensland, Girl and Girl consists of singer/guitarist Kai James, guitarist Jayden Wiliams, bassist Fraser Bell, and drummer Melissa James (aka Aunt Liss). The band gained recognition after winning the inaugural Gold Coast Music Prize and became a standout act at Australia’s 2022 Bigsound Music Conference. They supported Dry Cleaning on a national tour before heading to Europe for their debut tour, which featured performances at The Great Escape, gigs with Blondshell, and an appearance at London’s Wide Awake Festival in 2023.
Girl and Girl has been highlighted as one of Rolling Stone’s 'Best of SXSW' and NME's '10 Essential Acts' at SXSW 2024, and they were featured on Steve Lamacq’s 6Music SXSW Wrap as a top festival pick. In May, they completed a month-long tour in the US with Royel Otis, which included multiple live-to-air radio sessions and a debut performance for KEXP Live.
The band returned to Europe in late 2024 for vibrant performances at End of The Road and the Manchester Psych Festival, alongside headlining shows, leading up to their showcase slots at Reeperbahn 2024.
