Overview

By popular demand, the Gold Coast Amateur Beekeeping Society is holding another "Introduction to Beekeeping Course" to help you get started with backyard honey bee keeping. This course is suitable for absolute novices or beginners in their first year of keeping honey bees, and is applicable to all hive types, including Flow Hive. Even those with more than a year of experience may find this course beneficial as it aims at beginner-level knowledge.

The course spans over 8+ hours, conducted across two consecutive half days: Saturday morning and Sunday morning.

Locations: - Day 1: 74 Billabirra Cres, 4211 (Assemble at 8:30 AM for a 9 AM start) - Day 2: Private property in Southport QLD (actual address provided on Day 1, approx. 9 AM - 1 PM)

Participants will receive background information and reading material prior to the course start date.

What you need to know: Please arrive from 8:30 AM for coffee, ready for a 9 AM start on Saturday. The course will cover the theory and practical skills necessary for beginners to start with a honey beehive. By the end of the course, participants will have met several GCABS Club members who will assist with practical activities and establish mentoring connections.

Loaner personal protective equipment (PPE) will be available for Day 2. A basic morning tea/light lunch will be provided. If you have food allergies, please mention them at least one week before the class so accommodations can be made. Contacts to breeders and suppliers will be shared with registered attendees.

If you need further nourishment bring it along and feel welcome to eat throughout the morning, as 4 hours is a long stretch. Refund (less processing fees and catering expense ) will be returned. 5.In the event of ticket holder illness / mishap preventing you from attending , the paid registration in course may be held over to the next class offered by GCABS but must be redeemed within 6 month 6.Access to post course support (mentors, club meeting, newsletter, phone support, education days) are only available to club members. Membership is strongly recommended.
