As the founding frontman of the legendary NZ rock band Shihad and founder of the supergroup The Adults, Jon Toogood has spent 30 years at the forefront of Aotearoa’s music scene, showcasing his talents in writing, singing, and performing. The past few years have brought a series of challenges for Jon, prompting him to turn inwards and process his experiences through music.
His first solo record, ‘Last of The Lonely Gods’, features 10 tracks that reflect his most personal stories and struggles. This album is described as "a really honest record" that serves as a form of healing for Jon, helping him to look toward the future.
The collection includes the title track ‘Last Of The Lonely Gods’, which emerged from a conversation with a friend, and the poignant songs ‘Shouldn’t Leave It Like That’, focusing on expressing feelings to loved ones, and ‘Love Is Forever’, a lament about love and the circle of life.
In his solo performances, Jon has connected deeply with audiences, who share their own stories with him after shows. He explains, “This album is me talking about grief, and I’m using the only art form I've ever known since I was 18 to work through it."
Produced by ARIA award-winning Scott Horscroft, ‘Last Of The Lonely Gods’ takes listeners on a journey through grief and loss, navigating the challenges of separation during lockdowns while also searching for silver linings.
