Overview

Lindy Morrison and Irena Luckus first collaborated in the Brisbane band ZERO in 1978 during the post-punk explosion. The band, named after a London-based anarchist/anarcha-feminist newspaper, had their debut gig halted by the police in a back lane in Petrie Terrace, Brisbane. Joining ZERO required good running shoes, as they practiced daily and performed frequently. Lindy left the band in late 1980 to join The Go-Betweens, where she drummed on their first six albums until 1989.

Irena continued with a variety of music projects as Xiro/Xero until the band's split in 1983. She went on to work with various artists and musicians and created numerous art exhibitions, performances, cassettes, books, and recordings in Brisbane and Sydney.

After her time with The Go-Betweens, Lindy engaged in community music projects across Australia as a music director, conducting large drum ensembles and leading workshops. She collaborated with Amanda Brown in The Rainy Season and later with Alex the Astronaut, and is currently a part of the Snarski Circus Lindy Band. In 2023, she received the QMusic Lifetime Achievement Award and has recently returned from recording and touring with two UK bands.

Irena relocated to Tasmania in 2010, performing live solo shows as Comrad Xero and blending her distinctive voice with both programmed and live synth-based sounds.

In 2023, Lindy Morrison and Irena Luckus continue their spirit of rebellion through art and music, honoring their past while looking boldly into the future. As Lindy Morrison puts it, “In our art there lies a truth and in our music a salvation.”
