Overview

Meet the author: J.P. Powell is an archaeologist, historian, teacher, and author who has excavated sites in Jordan, Cyprus, Greece, and Australia. With a passion for bringing the past to life, she intertwines historical and fictional characters to narrate stories of people living through extraordinary times.

In her first novel, The Brisbane Line, Powell delves into wartime Brisbane through the eyes of Sergeant Joe Washington, who works with the American Criminal Investigation Command. While investigating the murder of an American soldier found near the South Brisbane cemetery, he encounters notorious Queensland detective Frank Bischof and uncovers the reasons why General MacArthur described Brisbane as "the most corrupt place in the South Pacific."

Powell continues her wartime saga with Deception Bay, where Australian Rose McAlister re-enters Washington's life as she returns to Central Bureau, MacArthur's code-breaking equivalent of Bletchley Park. Together, they investigate a suspicious drowning and its connection to an arm retrieved from the submarine base on the Brisbane River.

Join Powell as she discusses the State Library of Queensland Fellowship that allowed her to conduct research for these novels, as well as the fascinating process of writing these compelling thrillers. Signed copies of her books will be available for purchase on the day. Subscribe to be the first to learn about future events.
