Under the leadership of CEO & Artistic Director Patrick Nolan since 2017, Opera Queensland is dedicated to celebrating the strengths of the operatic canon while actively engaging top-tier artists to reinvigorate the art form through a contemporary lens. With a focus on the powerful energy opera generates, Nolan’s programming balances Classic, Contemporary, and Future works, offering something for every audience.
Serving Australia’s most decentralised state, Opera Queensland reaches regional and remote centres with a diverse range of performances, education activities, and community programs. The annual program caters to a wide audience—from first-time opera goers and school students to First Nations communities, people with disabilities, and long-time opera enthusiasts who believe in opera’s transformative power to help us understand ourselves and each other.
In 2021, Opera Queensland celebrated its 40th anniversary, having played a central role in the evolution of opera in Queensland. Over the years, the company has nurtured the careers of some of the country’s most celebrated artists, including Kate Miller-Heidke, Jacqueline Dark, Kiandra Howarth, Mariana Hong, and Kanen Breen.
