The Tivoli Theatre is a true gem in Brisbane’s entertainment scene, with a fascinating history that dates back to 1917 when it originally served as the Adams Bakery. Over the years, it’s worn many hats – even housing rare books for the State Library! But in the late '80s, as Expo ’88 lit up the city, Ann Gams took the reins and transformed the building into The Tivoli Restaurant and Theatre, drawing inspiration from Paris’s iconic Paradis Latin cabaret theatre.
Fast forward to 2016, and brothers Steve and Dave Sleswick stepped in to save this iconic venue from redevelopment, keeping its rich heritage intact. Today, The Tiv is still as stunning as ever, with its gorgeous art deco design and undeniable old-world charm. It’s no wonder it’s considered one of Australia’s most beautiful venues.
Over the years, The Tivoli has welcomed a long list of Aussie music legends like Powderfinger, Nick Cave, and Paul Kelly, as well as international superstars like Bob Dylan, Taylor Swift, and PJ Harvey. And that’s just the beginning!
At over 100 years old, The Tivoli is still making waves, offering a vibrant mix of local and international performances that will leave you wanting more.
