Overview

Black Aleph’s deconstructed doom and cinematic post-metal offers a visceral experience, evoking post-apocalyptic landscapes and obscure rituals. Their sound has been likened to Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Neurosis, and We Lost The Sea, infused with a spiritual quality from Middle Eastern modal traditions. The band’s unique instrumentation includes guitar, cello, and Iranian daf drum, featuring Lachlan R. Dale (Hashshashin) on guitar, Timothy Johanessen (ex-Mehr Ensemble) on daf, and Peter Hollo (Tangents) on cello.

Black Aleph’s heavy, cinematic, and hypnotic music is complemented by supporting acts such as the progressive rock of Kodiak Empire, the cinematic explorations of Echotide, and the experimental soul of Laik. Their album, Apsides, is set to release on 25 October through Art As Catharsis & Dunk Records.

“These three musicians weave Persian classical and ritual sounds together with a blackened doom sound for music that captivates me immediately.” - Cvlt Nation

“A trio of experimental musicians who are pushing the edges of what can be done with some of the more unique instruments that make up the celestial bodies of rock and roll.” - Everything Is Noise

Black Aleph’sform of deconstructed doom and cinematic post-metal is something that needs to be felt. It’s a bodily, earth-shuddering experience, conjuring up post-apocalyptic landscapes, blackened portals and obscure rituals. The trio’s style has been compared to Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Neurosis and We Lost The Sea - though with a borderline spiritual quality that comes from the influence of Middle Eastern modal traditions, as well as the band’s unique instrumentation: guitar, cello, and Iranian daf drum. Featuring Lachlan R. Dale (Hashshashin) on guitar, Timothy Johanessen (ex-Mehr Ensemble) on daf, and Peter Hollo (Tangents) on cello, Black Aleph represent that heavy, cinematic and hypnotic music still has much to offer as an artform. Don’t miss the supports, from the polyrhythmic, progressive rock ofKodiak Empire, the cinematic explorations ofEchotide, to the experimental soul ofLaik. Black Aleph’s Apsides is out 25 October on Art As Catharsis & Dunk Records. -- “These three musicians weave Persian classical and ritual sounds together with a blackeneddoom sound for music that captivates me immediately." - Cvlt Nation "A trio of experimental musicians who are pushing the edges of what can be done with some ofthe more unique instruments that make up the celestial bodies of rock and roll.- Everything IsNoise
