Join the Australian Chamber Orchestra for a night of celebration and surprise as they close their 50th Anniversary National Concert Season with an adventure to Paris. Experience the intimate and dreamy atmosphere of Le Boeuf sur le toit, the legendary cabaret bar of 1920s Paris, where the spirits are high and Europe’s most fashionable mingle with the city’s greatest minds, including Coco Chanel, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, and Gertrude Stein.
Directed by Richard Tognetti, the Australian Chamber Orchestra will dive into an era of innovation and wonder, featuring renowned Australian soprano Alexandra Oomens. The evening will be hosted by Le Gateau Chocolat, a brilliant bass and entertainer known for his roles in La Clique and La Soirée.
This program highlights the innovators who paved the way for future trend-setters, featuring the music of Erik Satie, Lili Boulanger, and the group known as Les Six, which includes composers Francis Poulenc and Darius Milhaud. These artists drew inspiration from the transgressive jazz of Le Boeuf and Jean Cocteau’s avant-garde poetry.
Directed by Circa’s Yaron Lifschitz, this spectacular evening promises to deliver unexpected storytelling, song, and surrealism, with music by Claude Debussy, Germaine Tailleferre, Erik Satie, Francis Poulenc, Darius Milhaud, and Nadia and Lili Boulanger.
